Writer's Block: Single pride day

Given that we're less than a week out from Valentines, how do you feel about the approaching holiday? Will you participate or abstain? If you're not in a relationship, how will you celebrate your single status?

Oh boy. How do I start?

Well... I've disliked Valentine's Day since I left elementary school and the mandatory "if you give a valentine to one person, you have to give one to everyone in the class" rules.

I plan on "bah humbuging" the entire day, just so you all know. This will be my first and only mention of this stupid, idiotic, over-commercialized "holiday" here.

I have never had a boyfriend around the day, and people tell me that my feelings will change when/if I ever do. I say I'll just tell him to ignore the day.

'Cause really? I don't see the point.

Author: immortal_jedi aka jedipati

Wordcount: 371

Rating: PG

Characters/Pairings: Becky/Chuck, some surprises.

Spoilers: Up to 5.9 to be safe

Disclaimer: I don’t own Supernatural, nor do I own any of the characters of supernatural (including the prophet and his girlfriend.)

Warning: Crack!

Summary: Supernatural fandom is at it again- the fallout from the convention in “The Real Ghostbusters

A/N: This is a companion piece to [info]latentfunction’s fic Damage Control, found here. They inspired me to write this little piece, a mock “fandom_wank” write up. Isn’t it great that we have a fandom that allows us to go meta- and it’s not even us?

I tried to make sure that all of the LJ names are not real ones. Samlicker81 is Becky’s LJ from the show, and there is actually a LJ with that name.

My offer is here if anyone would like a set of drabbles from me.

On the Purse Hunt- again!

I'm a little particular about the style of purse I use. I prefer leather, though that's not completely necessary. I like my purses to be medium sized, with several pockets, and a long strap. It's the long strap thing that always gets me, I like a purse style that's not very popular.

So, though I have a few months before my current purse wears out, I'm going to start the hunt now. It'll probably take me that much time to find a replacement.

Fun. Joy. Yippee.

I think today is the first day I've seen the sun since last weekend. Sunday, to be exact, I think.

It's been rain. Rain. more rain. Oh, look! Hail! rain. Rain. Rain Rain. All week long.

Don't get me wrong, we need the rain.

We just don't need the Super Soaker turned on us all at once. Seriously, my house got 6.8 inches of rain, according to the rain gauge we have out in the back yard.

So, it's nice to see the sun today.

My offer is here for anyone who wants to look

Repost this in your LJ if you know someone who has, had, or has been affected by cancer.

Well. I've got a bit of a list here.

My maternal grandfather died of Multiple Myeloma (a bone marrow cancer) nearly 10 years before I was born, so that affected my entire family- mom dropped out of college to help her mom, for example, but I never met him.

When I was eight, my paternal grandmother was diagnosed with lung cancer, directly caused because she smoked. She had 1/3 of a lung taken out, and she lived until I was 19. When I was 16, I learned that she hadn't been expected to survive the surgery and cancer originally.

When I was 20, my paternal grandfather died of lung cancer that spread to his brain. He smoked as well.

My maternal uncle is currently undergoing treatment for melanoma, which has also spread to his brain. They got a tumor out, and he seems to be responding well to treatment, so here's hoping it all goes well.

I have a friend who has been diagnosed and is being treated for a form of breast cancer, though things seem to be going well for her.

And finally, I have had a breast cancer scare myself, though I was lucky enough that it turned out to be benign.

So, I need some advice.

I've got this story- POTC, for those who care. It's pretty short, and it feels like it should have more to it. But I can't seem to find more.

As it is, it's a perfectly amusing story with a silly punchline. But... it feels like I should have more to it, even if I can't seem to find more. My question is: should I send it to my beta now, or wait until I've figured out if there is any more to the story.

2009 in Review

In short: Thank God it’s done with! May we never see a year like 2009 again!

In long:

Work: I worked a short assignment with the US Census in April, then found what might have been a full time employment in May. Unfortunately, it proved that the job wasn’t a good fit, and I left the company in September. I remained unemployed the rest of the year.

Job hunt: I found a part time job, to start on Tuesday, which, while it isn’t the best, it is a job. I am still searching for a full time job. I have one potential job that if I get, will provide guaranteed employment. The problem is getting it.

Writing: This year, I joined [info]findyourwords and ended up writing over 140,000 words! Most of that was posted this year, of course, but I do have a few stories that are only half written.

Sewing: This year, I attempted to make a one day Elizabeth costume (which did not work out, blah), made a Renn Faire Costume for myself, and most of one for my sister. I made a Plum Pirate Gown for Halloween for myself, and various and assorted Christmas gifts. I’m getting better at this sort of thing!

Of course, I need to repair and redo parts of the Jedi costume, but whatever.

Fandom: Still writing for Pirates, got a few Star Wars things on the backburner, but I’m slowly becoming fully involved in the Supernatural fandom as the last half of the year got on. It’s a fun show, and I’m enjoying it.

Fun Stuff: I treated myself to an annual pass to Disneyland at the beginning of the year, which I used all year. I went to the Renn Faire in April. I went to a Star Trek convention in August (that was literally a 25 hour trip. We left at 7 Saturday evening and got back at 8 Sunday night.)

So… overall, thanks to the job stuff, the economy, and a bunch of other issues that I really, really don’t want to get into, this year was pretty bad, with the good things being the things I use to escape reality for a bit.

Final Word Total for the Year

It mocks me
Last [info]findyourwords of the year

So, I continued to write and keep track of my writing, even after I stopped posting about it here. I did pretty good this year, and wrote a total of 140,507 words for the year.

My original target, as you may remember, was 60,000 words. By the end of January, I moved it to 75,000. I reached that goal in July. I changed my goal to 125,000, which I reached in late October or Early November.

I have signed up again for the challenge, this time for 100,000 words for the year. Yes, less then what I did this year, but I have no idea what's going to happen to me this coming year.

If you're a writer, you might want to join this community, it's a great way to set writing goals for the year- and so you know, the minimum goal is only 35,000 for the year.

Final tally for 2009!

140507 / 125000 words. 112% done!

End of the Year Good News!

I have good news, folks!

I've got a part time job now! Now, granted, it's very part time- 16 hours a week- but it's a job! One that will give me plenty of time to search for a more permanent position, too.

I start on Tuesday.

Here's hoping for a good start to the new year!

(Quite frankly, I'm just happy to have a job right now, even if it's a part time thing. So much better then having nothing.)

Now... back to that one job I'm still trying to get...

Are there any classic holiday movies or TV shows that you look forward to watching year after year? What are your all-time favorites? Are there any you simply can't stand?

Heh.

My family absolutely has to watch "How the Grinch Stole Christmas"- the cartoon, not the movie- every Christmas Eve. I'm freaking sick and tired of that cartoon.

Other then that, no, not really. Most of the other Christmas shows were taped 20 years ago and the tape is dying. Still, I like the Charlie Brown Christmas and the Garfield Christmas Special.

Your LJ tells the truth about your year 2009; write down the first sentence of the first post for each month.

January: Another very busy year, this year.

February: Author: immortal_jedi aka jedipati

March: My dog is hurt.

April: So, as expected, my word count plummeted this week.

May: Star Wars Day, May the Fourth be with you, yada yada, I know.

June: So… Yes, I am alive!

July: So, another week gone, another week closer to reaching my goal for the year.

August: My now traditional comment on the new title screen- I liked last season’s better.

September: Title: Making a Decision

October: Yes, I am planning on dressing up this year, assuming I manage to finish the blasted costume.

November: Rating: PG-13

December: Author: immortal_jedi aka jedipati

Ok, so four of them, I just picked up the first line, since they were story posts.

So... I assume most of you have at least heard of Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody. Link given if you haven't.

And I assume most of you have heard of the Muppets.

Combine them, and you get... well...

And I know why.

Yesterday, I got the H1N1 flu shot. So, I'm dealing with the side effects of that. (It's never really certain that I will get side effects from flu shots. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. This time, I did.) Low grade temperature, general blah, some minor aches.

But! That's a lot better then getting the flu, so I don't mind too much.

Does anyone want a Christmas card from me?

Just comment on this post, and let me know. Leave me an address, and what you'd like me to call you.

I should have comments screened, so I'll be the only one to see it.

If I sent you a card last year, I should still have your address, so just let me know if you want a card this year.
