Ah- The Annual Event

I am, of course, talking about the annual Southern California Audio-Visual/Temperature Disconnect.

Heh. That’s what I’m naming this time period. It’s that period of the year where I’m listening to “Winter Wonderland,” “Sleigh Bells” and all sorts of Christmas Carols, seeing all the decorations up… and wearing a T-shirt and jeans.

Seriously. The Kost- a radio station here in the LA area- is playing their month long holiday song marathon already, and it was 80 degrees today (‘bout 27 degrees for those of you on the Celsius system). Yeah.

Like I said, Audio-Visual/Temperature Disconnect. It’s an annual tradition here in SoCal- along with going to the beach on Christmas Day- some people do that. Or Barbequing- my family, sometimes.

Family, Chapter 9

I am the Sea
Author: immortal_jedi, aka jedipati

Rating: PG-13

Characters/Pairings: Davy/Calypso, Will/Elizabeth, Cast of… nearly everyone who appears in the movies

Warnings: They’re pirates! Also, this is very, very AU, and the premise is a little tiny bit cracky.

Spoilers: Well, it’s heavily AU, but it also assumes that you’ve seen all three movies

Disclaimer: I don’t own POTC. I don’t own the characters. I’m pretty sure I’m the only one who could come up with a plot twist like this, though.

Summary: Davy Jones didn’t like it when Calypso was bound, and swears that he will free her. He didn’t expect it to take as long as it was, nor did he expect to have to ask his grandson and great-grandson- both of whom are named William Turner- for help.

A/N: Sao Feng is a pirate, folks, and obsessed with Calypso. That’s not changed from canon.

So, I’ve made mention of the costume that I’m trying to make for Halloween this year, though I haven’t told you all what it is, since I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to do it. I mentioned trim, I do believe, as my worst problem.

Well…

I think I’ll be able to finish it.

And, I think I’ll tell you all what I’m making, and update you on the progress of the costume.

I’m making Elizabeth Swann’s plum dress from the first POTC movie.

Most of you don't know, heck, I'd be surprised if anyone knew but I've been following the Roman Polanski issue.

Personally, it makes me sick that anyone defends him or makes excuses for him. He raped a 13 year old girl! And he pled guilty to it, too. He should get no excuses, no pity, no support, no defense. I'm glad he was caught, and I hope he gets the book thrown at him for running away.

Quite apart from the "13 years old" issue, the victim has repeatedly said that she said "no" to him. Both issues- the age, and the "no" make it rape in my book.

No, I don't care what movies he's made. I don't care what awards he's won. I don't care that the "poor man" couldn't return to America. I do care about his victim, and I do feel that her wishes should be taken into account, so that may mean he doesn't get another trial. Fine- but make sure that the absolute idiots who are defending him know that he was a sick, sick man who shouldn't have been allowed to go free.

And it's nice that I finally found a couple of articles that show why all his defenders are all pretty stupid (or they just think his "art" trumps his morals, which wouldn't surprise me). There are exactly two "defenses" that make any sense, and they both have to do with the victim.

Sugar BUZZ!

My Bible Study- which meets Tuesday nights- had a potluck dessert fondue meeting today. Everyone brought dippables , and the leader made chocolate and caramel fondues. We had angel food cake, marshmallows, fruit of all types, shortcake, and brownies, and all types of cookies to dip.

I’m still sugar buzzed. It’s been about two hours since I’ve had any of it, and I’m still hopped up on sugar.

I really hope I crash soon.

Are you planning to dress up for Halloween? How long do you typically plan your costume? Do you keep it a secret?

View 1031 Answers

Yes, I am planning on dressing up this year, assuming I manage to finish the blasted costume. Typically, I don't plan very long, but this year and last year I started planning in May, since I'm now making my costumes.

Yes, I'm keeping it a secret, mostly because I'm still not sure I'm going to be able to do part of it. (Blasted trim!)

This didn’t come as a surprise to me, but I lost my job.

It really wasn’t a good fit, but I wasn’t going to quit, mostly because I don’t have another job lined up- though I’d already started looking before this. Still, because it’s a small business, my boss knew that it wasn’t a good fit, and he’s the one who made the decision.

I fully agree with him- sales is not a good fit for me. Still, I can use him as a reference, so that’s good, and he said that I was a hard worker, and he’s glad I tried.

And I learned a lot in the four months I was with the company, even if it didn’t last.

I’m really trying to look on the bright side of this, folks. I’m a little upset- who likes to lose their job, especially right now? But I’m mostly relieved. The job was stressing me out and affecting my health. (I’ve even been having trouble eating, which caused a fainting spell on Wednesday. I’m getting better, but that’s a big part of the reason why I’m not terribly upset.)

So, on the whole, this is not necessarily a bad thing. I’ll find another job, hopefully one that fits my strengths. I’m currently thinking about getting a part time job with Disneyland while I search for something better.

Well, it's back to the job listings for me!

It mocks me
So, not a bad week this week, in terms of writing production. I’ve gotten into the habit of spending an afternoon on Saturday or Sunday in a café, just typing away. It’s relaxing.

Anyway, this week I wrote 2676 words, for a total of 93413 words written this year. Not bad…

93413 / 125000 words. 75% done!
